KJ Somaiya Medical College: Admission Process and Eligibility
The admission process is carried out by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, Mumbai. The admissions are finalized after the common counselling based on the performance of the candidates and the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG and PG merit list. The counselling will be under the overall supervision, direction and control of the State. The State has directed clearly that no admission will be done at college level, the involvement of State CET cell is must. The Commissionerate Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai will be the sole authorized body responsible for the admissions. KJ Somaiya Medical College: Eligibility
- MBBS candidates should have passed Class 12 or the High School Senior Secondary exam by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any other equivalent exam conducted by any State Board or equivalent.
- The MBBS candidate should have scored a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate in PCB/Biotech combined.
- MBBS aspirants should have cleared the NEET UG exam
- PG course aspirants should have an MBBS degree from a medical college recognized by MCI and should completed the mandatory internship of one year.
- PG course aspirant should have their name in the merit in the exam
KJ Somaiya Medical College: Infrastructure and Facilities
KJ Somaiya Medical College, Mumbai has one of the best infrastructure and modern facilities. The college is built in the heart of the Mumbai city, Sion and has a vast building of approximately 2,40,000 square feet of area divided into two wings. The departments have sufficient area to carryout educational activities with huge classrooms, well-ventilated labs, resourceful library, well-equipped OPDs, wards and operation theatres along with casualty wards, ICU, Central Pathology Lab, Blood Bank and a Canteen.
Lecture Theatres
There are total of five lecture theatres having an average seating capacity of 125 students including a master lecture hall/auditorium having an accommodation capacity of 400 seats. All the lecture halls are equipped with the latest Audio-Visual System and Over Head Projector.
Demonstration Rooms
There are total six demonstration rooms across departments and each room has accommodation capacity 60 students. The OPDs also have separate demonstration area.
Common Rooms
The building has two common rooms, each for Girls and Boys with 700 square feet of area with attached toilets and relaxing facilities.
Laboratories
There are total six laboratories in KJ Somaiya Medical College building having modern facilities.
- The building has Central Pathology lab for general and specialized testing and investigation. The lab is controlled by the college’s Department of Pathology. The lab staff has 12 qualified technicians working under the supervision of Faculty staff from Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry. The lab provides its services 24 hours.
- The building has two dedicated research labs for Diagnostic and Research purposes
- KJ Somaiya Medical College has labs based on the departments such as Microbiology/Serology/Histopathology and Biochemistry.
- For routine tests and investigations, the building has side labs in the wards
Auditorium
The college has an auditorium, which can accommodate as many as 350 people and is equipped with all the audio visual facilities. The auditorium can be used for conferences, seminars, student activities and visitor lecture.
Recreation Facilities
The building has arrangements and setup for both indoor and outdoor recreational activities. For indoor activities like carom and table tennis are available. The campus has open ground with a Soccer field and Cricket pitch and throw-ball court.
Seamless Digital Campus
All the departments, staff, medical superintendent, hospital administration are equipped with High-speed internet and efficient computer facilities. The campus has its own separate digital library.
Laundry and Kitchen
KJ Somaiya Hospital has an eight staffer laundry which is equipped with washers, hydrators, driers and rollers for ironing. The campus has a dedicated building where the meals are prepared for the patients under the supervision of Dietician. Provision for special diet is there on prescription by Clinicians.
Hostel Facility
KJ Somaiya Medical College has its own hostel having accommodation capacity of 350 students. The administration will increase the capacity of the hostel to 500 hundred students by constructing an additional building. The campus has another hostel having 37 rooms allotted to 95 Registered Medical Officers (RMOs), PG students and interns.
